Soul of Romance…

I am often inclined to indulge in a hot bubble bath, scented candles, a glass of wine and a juicy romance novel.  I am transported to Caribbean islands, snow covered mountain retreats, bright lights of a busy city or my dream home in one of my favorite places.  My imagination is my only limitation.  There is nothing like losing ones self in unique and exotic locations as you live vicariously through the female character’s adventure as she finds love and the Soul of Romance…

Almost 10 years ago I discovered to my amazement, an African-American romance novel in the local K-Mart.  As an avid reader of romance novels, for well over 20 years, it was a beautiful discovery.  Finally romance novels that portrayed romance and love about and for African-Americans.  The characters looked like me, spoke like me and they loved like African-Americans.  So each month, The Imani Book Club will entice you with a selected African-American romance novel in hopes that you will indulge in the Soul of Romance…

Sweet Dreams

by

Sandra Kitt

Brief Description:

Chandra Eaton can't believe she left her journals—containing very private, very erotic dreams she's been having for the past two years—in a Philly taxicab. Her embarrassment turns to intrigue when Preston Tucker finds and returns them. The soulful playwright fires up Chandra's body and her mind. An irresistible combination, until she starts to suspect that he's just using her for creative inspiration.

Preston has spent years running from relationships. Chandra's journals captivate his imagination, for sure, but it's the intelligent, sensual woman behind them who really fascinates him. Now he has to find a way to win back her trust before she brings the curtain down on their affair for good.

Excerpt:

A tentative smile trembled across her lips.  "I'm good, Preston."

He ran the back of his hand over her cheek.  "Are you ready for this?  If not, the we can sleep together without making love."

Shifting slightly, Chandra draped her leg over his.  "I'm ready."

Imani Book Club Review:  3.5

Alers expounds on the Eaton family by taking up the story of Chandra Eaton, the wondering sister of the clan.  Chandra returns home to Philly after spending several years in Belize as a Peace Corp volunteer.  Her time in Belize enriched her, but it also tapped into her erotic self.  She finds her dreams are vivid and sensual and she keeps a book detailing each of the dreams.  It is this book that brings her into contact with renowned playwright, Preston Tucker.

Preston discovers Chandra’s journal of dreams in a cab and before returning it to her; he read it.  It ignited his creative juices and he knows he must work with the person behind the erotica and produce a new and different play.  Upon meeting Chandra, he is taken with beauty and intelligence.  As they agree to work together on the play, they also find themselves falling for each other.  However, the past and the present could ruin their relationship.

Alers bring sensuality to all her stories and this one is no exception.  Two strong personalities finding softness with each other.  The story was engaging and sexy.  Just wished there was more emphasis put on their chemistry together.
