Favorite Book (s) : I hate this question.
I read too much! I love too many books. Hummm! I love The
Color of Love by Sandra Kitt - the romance is so real, true, honest.
Mama by Terry McMillan - because it reminds me of my own mama.
Waiting in Vain by Colin Channer - no one can coin such sensuous and
provocative phrasing for lovemaking better than Colin. What Looks Like
Crazy On An Ordinary Day by Pearl Cleage - beautiful prose. The
Trilogy of E. Lynn Harris - He dared me to be more open-minded.
Between Lovers by Eric Jerome Dickey - the style in which the main character
was never given a name and the beauty of the phrasing. Black Boy by
Richard Wright - it made me laugh, cry and think. Anything by James
Baldwin. Malcolm X - made me get in touch with my blackness.
All of Me by Venise Berry - taught me to accept the skin I am in and not
to worry what others may think. A Day Late and A Dollar Short by
Terry McMillan - again it reminded me of my mother. Until by
Timmothy McCann because he was the first author I connected with by email and I
miss him. Shattered Souls by Dywane D. Birch - because sometimes
you gotta laugh through the pain as you learn to get over it and move on.
Butterscotch Blues - Margaret made me cry Hard. There are many more but
when you read on average 10 books a month, you just can't name them all.
Favorite Author (s): E. Lynn Harris, Terry
McMillan, Eric Jerome Dickey, Timmothy McCann, James Baldwin, Dywane D. Birch,
Pearl Cleage, Venise Berry and of course, Colin Channer, wrote a poem about him
want to hear it... just joking but I did write a poem about him. They all inspire me, touch me, encourage me
and give me what I need to sustain outside of the necessities...
What have you gained from being in the book club?:
The ability to share with others my love of
reading. My mother encouraged me to read at a young age. Even at a
young age, I knew reading was an outlet my mother thrived on. I too live
to read. If I can get one person, just one person to pick up a book and
read it -- my role is done. My life would be so empty if I could not read
and I want everyone to read anything, just read and this book club gives me that
outlet to spread my own simple gospel - reading. I have garnered some
lifelong friends who have filled my life with joy and love. They accept my
anal ways, my moodiness and quiet spirit of faith. They encourage me when
I find it hard to find courage within me. They make me proud and mere
words could never express how blessed I am to be a part of such a diverse,
strong, beautiful, faith-filled group of African-American women. IMANI!
I wasn't going to spotlight
myself but my members would not cooperate and complete the forms, etc.
Anyway, hope this gives you an insight in to me!

I enjoy when new members enter our midst. They bring along a spark of new
life and garner renewed energy and that is what you have brought to Imani.
You just stepped right on in and made your self at home. I also love your
commitment to children and uplifting them when others may think it is hopeless.
Your passion is evident from your vigor of discussing the challenges and never
seeing them as hurdles that cannot be crossed. Welcome, welcome!
