Our Purpose:

To bring together a group of African-American women from diverse backgrounds who enjoy reading literature by African-Americans.  To support and exemplify African-American literature. To discuss the stories and communicate the issues in ways that may help, encourage and strengthen each other.  To provide each other with unconditional support on all levels.  To bring together women who are bonded through their Faith, first, which is embodied in their beauty, power, strength and confidence.  To provide a social outlet that encourages and supports a spiritual bond that only a lack of faith could destroy.

General Information

The Imani Book Club in Montgomery, Alabama began in 1999.  It was established by Cashana Seals, an avid reader, to bring together a diverse group of African-American women who enjoyed reading and would bond spiritually.  From 10 newsletters sent out to announce the Imani Book Club's birth, 14 members joined the book club.  With motivation and support from one another , the book club, which is celebrating 6 years together, has a membership of 15 active, strong African-American women.

I dedicate this book club to my mother, Betty Jean Colvin.  I miss you! You are my Star in Heaven! And to Mr. Donald P. Moore, the only man I could have ever called my father! RIP...
